There is a blog out there, kind of quiet now, called The Map Room. Jonathan Crowe is the author, and he is a map freak. He stopped the regular blog last year, but left the archives up and they are worth a real long look. There are more than 4,ooo entries, so set aside a week or two.
Jonathan also makes lists of map books and tracks the best sellers on Amazon. Guess who is number 1 for 2011, having only been out for two months? La di da, that feels good! There are lots of other good books listed, and even more lists from previous years. If you need more map books, check it out.
