Mapping in Zentagle, and a new book!

I have a friend across the world that I have never met. She just wrote a book, and I am very pleased to be a part of the blogroll to get the word out. Kass Hall lives in Australia and is a a Certified Zentangle® Teacher. This is something I knew not a thing about, until I got her book. Kass and I decided that a map was in order, since that combines techniques from both our books. I just took a very eventful trip from my home in Colorado to Ghost Ranch in northeastern New Mexico and decided that was the journey to map. First of all, I read the whole book since I was a Zentangle virgin. I...

The Ultimate Journey Map

Next week is the last Artfest, a retreat that has been going on for about 12 years in Port Townsend, Washington. I made this map to commemorate that final journey to this wonderful place. Artest is held at Fort Worden, an ex-Army base that is supposed to be full of ghosts, which a number of us will try to find while there. This is a trade I made, so hunt me down if you want...

Mom’s Realm Map

My friend Linda made a map that I would like to share. I met Linda in January when I went to Tucson to teach and do a presentation on maps. She is a part of the impressive group of artist in Arizona that call themselves Paperworks. Here is the post of the books and maps they made. Linda’s mother has Alzheimer’s Disease, which is coincidentally very common in my family. While it is devastating on every level, when we were walking in the morning before class, over the hills of the Sonoran Desert, she would tell me mom stories that really made me laugh. We talked about mapping her...

Journal Maps and a Giveaway

I use maps in my journals because I love the way they look, and the way it helps establish where I was when I was journaling that page. Here is a page from an Italian journal, with a bit of a map of Orvieto, a  hill town where I taught last year, and will teach again in 2013. I am teaching class in Virginia Beach in a few weeks about journal mapping, we will do some astrological maps, table maps, memory maps and whatever else I drum up between now and then. Here is the link for that. Journal Mapping In Virginia Beach. Many writers are also map lovers, and use maps in their studies for...

Hot New Releases!

This morning I had to check all my stats, it is fun to watch the numbers go up and down, and on Amazon I saw this. It is updated hourly, but still! I am gratified with all the attention the book is getting. Now I am working on a Webinar for January 19th, on CreateMixedMedia.com. I will be talking about the book, but intend to use all different art: student maps, some very fabulous vintage maps and stories about crime and cartography. Is there anything any of you would like to see me cover? Ideas are welcome! Today the blog hop heads to Lyric Montgomery Kinard, who has a fabulous post. Check...
